Therapy for Parents in Washington

Parenting shouldn’t have to be so hard.

You love your child deeply. But sometimes loving them doesn't make knowing what to do any easier.

Maybe your child is struggling with anxiety, behavior, school, friendships, emotion regulation, or something you don't quite understand yet. You may spend hours worrying about them, advocating for them, researching solutions, and trying to figure out what they need next.

You may feel exhausted, frustrated, guilty, or even resentful. You might wonder if you're doing enough or worry that you're doing something wrong.

And when so much of your energy goes toward meeting your child's needs, where does that leave you?

You don't have to navigate the hardest parts of parenting alone.

Therapy can help.

How therapy can help

Therapy can give you a place to…

  • Process the stress and emotional exhaustion of parenting a struggling child

  • Manage anxiety, guilt, frustration, and feelings of helplessness

  • Respond to difficult behaviors without losing yourself in the process

  • Set healthy boundaries while still being compassionate

  • Navigate disagreements with partners about parenting

  • Cope with the uncertainty that comes with not knowing what your child needs

  • Advocate for your child without becoming completely overwhelmed

  • Understand how your child's challenges affect you and your relationships

  • Let go of unrealistic expectations about what parenting "should" look like

  • Find ways to care for yourself without feeling like you're abandoning your child

  • Feel more confident and supported in your role as a parent

A therapist who understands how complicated parenting can be

Britney Halversen, LMFT

I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist providing online therapy to men, women, and parents throughout Washington.

My professional work focuses on helping parents navigate the emotional and relational challenges that come with parenting. Your child doesn’t need to have a particular diagnosis, or even a diagnosis at all, for me to understand that something is difficult and that you need support.

I also bring personal experience to this work. I've parented children who have faced challenges including anxiety, selective mutism, dyslexia, pathological demand avoidance, level 1 autism, ADHD, and depression.

Those experiences have given me a firsthand understanding of how complicated parenting can become when the usual approaches don't seem to work. I know what it's like to advocate, research, worry, second-guess yourself, adjust expectations, and wonder how you're supposed to keep going when your child is struggling.

My role as your therapist isn't to diagnose or treat your child. It's to support you.

We'll work together to understand what you're experiencing, make space for the emotions that come with it, and find healthier ways to navigate the challenges in front of you without losing yourself along the way.

You deserve support, too.

If you're exhausted from carrying the emotional weight of parenting alone, I'd love to help.
